Trans Atlantic 2002
Lagos Portugal to Tortola British Virgin Islands
Thursday, September 30, 2004
Friends and Family:
Stormy Duchess is at-large once again, sailing the bounding main from Lagos (Portugal) back to her home port of Tortola (British Virgin Islands). Along the way, Captain and Crew will be sailing southwest from Lagos to the Canary Islands and onward to the Caribbean.
Leg I (Portugal to the Canaries) was accomplished by Crew 1 (Wayne & Edie Spangler and Kevin McClone) in near record time of 4 days!!! It was cold and apparently quite bumpy, with high seas and high winds, but they persevered and enjoyed their sail. Check out the "Latest Map" to recap how they progressed to the Canaries and visit "Quote of the Day" to see their daily comments.
Leg II (Canariesto Tortola) will kick off on Thursday, February 28th, when Dave Charron (formerly of Rice Lake, now in Vegas) joins the crew. Dave was originally on board (no pun intended) to be the webmaster during the trip, but decided it would be far more enjoyable actually BEING on the trip. Edie, having earned shore leave after weathering what will probably be the worst weather of the entire trip, returns home to Rice Lake to tend to work and family matters (and a fireplace!!!).
How long will it take? Will there be any unscheduled stops or detours? What kind of wildlife will they see? These and MANY more questions will be answered by staying tuned as the "Latest Map" tracks Stormy's daily progression and the "Quote of the Day" tells you what's happening to the Captain and Crew.
Do you have questions for comments for the Captain and/or Crew? If so, click on the "Talk to Crew" icon, submit your question or comment, and we'll forward it along during our daily satellite-phone conversation with Captain Wayne (that's how we get the coordinates to update the map).
Enjoy the trip!!!
